west beat mervue B 2nite to qualify for the last 8,wasn't at the game,i believe west rested alot of players and were nearly caught on the hop by a mervue side who deserved something out of the game.west are now at home to either blues our mervue A in the last 8.

this west team continues to baffle me,they played a very strong athenry side tonight that included seamie crowe, johnny mernagh, mark moran and brian mannion all of whom didn't play when west beat them 1-0 in the league, west just blew them away with in all fairness was probably some of the best football i've seen all season,i can't understand why west are doing so bad in the league after watching them tonight, mats what a player he is he was untouchable all night,i hope west get the finger out now and try and get a few wins and get safe in the league.

West Utd 3 Mervue utd 1

Mervue scored first through Derek McWalter but West hit back with two goals before the break from Tom Burke (header) and Simon Murray. West wrapped it up in the 2nd half when a Matts O'Malley cross was deflected into the net for an own goal. Good game and well refereed by Vincent Carew.

Congrats to West on their first win in the competition having lost the 4 previous finals they were in, 3 in penalty shootouts including last year (stats by Willie Grant). West deserving winners on the night. Vinny O'Connor was named man of the match. full match report on www.mervueunited.com

The two teams play each other again in the league on Sunday!
