Yes one player has left but club still there. No reason why they wont carry on. They had two teams last year so definitely will have a team this year.

So there manager is gone means the team will fall apart what a load of crap. It's the players who perform on a pitch not the manager he hardly had them fine tuned when a handfull would turn up for training every week. These are a very talented bunch of girls who if they apply them selves and commit to training can challenge the likes of salthill again. You have to remember Salthill have won the league for the last two years its not like Bohs have won everything and just decided to throw in towel. They will come back fighting and hopefully back to previous years.

Hopfully this post will cause a positive reaction , from what I hear its a lot more than the manager gone , top players gone according to members of Bohs some to Salthill . From what the gang were sying to me , there will be a team there , but nothing like the fine side there over the last number of years .One of the main driving forces behind and part of this team , Lorraine Darcy is also supposedly retired after many years of great work .
So maybe the fact this is up and being discussed might awaken the interest in the club .
Any promotion work being done on the womens game scene here ?

But , in answer to guest10 , she did have the decency to take my call, considering i had no connection to FA , Ladies football or anything else for that matter..........

PostSubject: Affirmative Action   Sat Jan 10, 2009 1:36 pm

The forum is a great way to express and articulate all these concerns, and I am in complete agreement with points being raised but I believe that affirmative action is now required from all other clubs if we want to build a successful ladies league for the future Very Happy Otherwise in its present format it will become a one team league, Sad there are enough committed people out there to organise this shambles once and for all and show them that we can have a strong, organised league!

Guest10 , point taken as buddyb said a lot more to this than mets the eye , she and Maria Lawton were they driving forces in ladies soccr for the last 10 + years when Galway teams had nothing , long before Devon entered the scene .I find your snide remark as ofensive as it is unresearched !
Without the above two ladies and a few of their like , their would be no ladies soccer in Galway , FACT !

LADIES SOCCER STRUGGLING IN GALWAY ; Very simple answer to this question Tinkerbell , same reason mens football is struggling , one or two clubs want the best players from all over the county and will do everything possible to get them , they want to kill off all competition . They also kill local leagues , but that dosn't bother them .What ye ladies should do , is form a league of yer own , let Devon head off into national leagues . Never mind the representative sides , don't send players to its trials (this is where the best are tapped up ). To hell with this notion going around , "she is good enough to play for Ireland " thats all that sems to mater in some sections of Galway ladies soccer at the moment . Elitism has reared its very , very ugly head . Back to basics , fun , fair competition or say goodbye to Galway Ladies Soccer !

Only work that was done would only benefit herself. There was alot more involved than just two women setting up womens soccer in galway. Did Maria Lawton deserve how she was treated last year there was a witch hunt to get her out. She deserved better than that

Steady on my sporting friends. The title of the the fourm is "Bohs Ladies 2009 RIP" and I would think this is far from the truth, regardless of who has left.....

PEOPLE COME AND PEOPLE WILL GO -BUT SPORT WILL GO ON FOREVER. TO ENSURE THAT WE DO NOT DESTROY LADIES SOCCER FOR THE NEXT GENERATION, IT IS UP TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF US TO COME TOGETHER AND TALK AND WORK THE PROBLEM OUT, MAKE THE LEAGUE STRONGER AND DON'T LET THE BIG CLUBS DICTATE THE RULES.

STATATICS SHOW THAT FOR EVERY 1000 GIRL SOCCER PLAYERS IN IRELAND ONLY 1 WILL MAKE THE SENIOR IRISH INTERNATIONAL TEAM. DREAMS DO COME TRUE BUT YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PUT YOUR CLUB FIRST. flower

Tinky , is it true that clubs get a grant from the Govn. for having a ladies team and if so would this not be a huge incentive for clubs to start one up?????

Tinky , when i was involved with T.C i was inundated with requests from 15 , 16 yr old girls to start a ladies team. The interest was there and i remember the Sec once telling me you got 5000 grant if you had a ladies team. I know the new sec, wife of founder member of club is supposedly looking into starting next season, hopefully it wont be put on long finger!!!!
Also the Corofin ladies football team (gaa) would be ideal candidates as the club is one of the fastest growing and one of the main clubs in contention for success at underage in the future.
I think your league needs more publicity and more airwaves , because there are no reasons why primarily mens clubs , could not have a ladies team , the way foward and if im right 5000 richer.....To hold the interest you would want 6-8 committed clubs in your league. Not a big a task as first appears......contact all mens clubs sec"s , with the idea of a ladies league , properely ran and , let Salthill and Bohs go further afield if desired???

All Members

We are in a position to do something positive now with this cos it seems to me that people do care:!: and that is a great starting point.

I agree completely about the lack of publicity but there are enough local outlets available like the advertiser and Galway Bay whom would only be too glad to cover the ladies league, all that needs to be done is to send reports to them.

But:no: are we prepared to meet as suggested and devise a way to ensure that we have a league for the coming season in whatever format that may take? Last season cannot be repeated, it was definately a case of our representatives having a conflict of interest when it came to footballing matters:|

I wish ye all the best with yere efforts , I will give ye two small bits of serious advice , (1) The local newspapers are anti , uber anti soccer , Advertiser is rugby dominated and the Tribune is a Gaa almanac .(2) Galway bay fm is not much better , with part ownership I think , in the Tribunes hands .Just look all the posts against these twits on this Forum .
Sadly the First is gone . Ye could do better than have a chat with Tribesman 28 site on this forum for his advice or use the Galway FA site for promotion of the leagues !

Would have to disagree on the Galway Bay front as i have had conversations and email contact with the head of Sport there previously and he has iterated that they would only be too glad to offer covereage on the sunday evening sports report if clubs sent in reports and upcoming fixtures etc. Very Happy

Wait and see , why then does the six adult divisions in the GDL , and its large amount of juvenile leagues get a prime airing of five to six miutes after 7.45pm on GBAY FM , usually less than a commentary on an u 16 camogie club match , from maybe the prevous weekend ?????? Remember at one stage and for all I know still so , 25% of this station was owned by the GAA !
