Michael Byrne Cup

west beat mervue B 2nite to qualify for the last 8,wasn't at the game,i believe west rested alot of players and were nearly caught on the hop by a mervue side who deserved something out of the game.west are now at home to either blues our mervue A in the last 8.

just to let ya know delboy west lost the point they gained and crumlin recieved 3 pts over using the reserve game for suspension, there theory behind it was dat only first team players can use reserve games as suspension , i've never met a more anti west board in all my life but wud u blame them after wat happened wiv athenry.... west had 2 reds all season but the second der was nothin 2 play the cards started 2 fly between the A and B team der must of been about 15 red cards in about the last 4 or 5 games it nearly cost west b promotion and god knows wat they ave planned for the first team wudnt be surprised if they got relegated.. if it was west in the final theres no way they wud of brought a game forward so the lads cud serve there suspension

Your dead right hibs legend , the norm now seems to get a guy that played in the league of Ireland , where he has been pamperred , give him a nice big salary and wait for the trophies to pour in . Realistically this does not happen . Local knowledge and experience is far more essential .
Re good games , was there one in the premier league all season , none reported here noe in any of the small bits in the local rugby/gaa papers ........Speaking of which , did ye see the Sentinnels offering yesterday , there must have been 100 plus soccer fixtures / results crammed onto one page with an ad for a hasbeens game , next page had all the report on all last weeks games including all the Connacht finals in Drom . The two previous games had the usual "lost" report on the rugby team from the sports ground , the whole next page had a rugby guy from the same losing team doing his story .
God forbid if this team from a minority supported and playing wise sport ever won something , nothing else would feature at all . I reckon they have the 1 or 2 journalists i this town bought !

I have to say hibs that the west athenry connacht cup semi final, was as good a game i seen in years,it was exciting, end to end and full of some great football, although i do agree with you the standard has dipped a bit, there's now more emphasis on fitness than actual skill and natural abillity, which leads to alot of boring games, teams now a days seem more content with not losing, than actually going out and winning.

well pele,i know that my club, would be as fit as any senior hurling our football team in the county, training since late june, great turnouts and the effort was put in,sadly no reward in terms of silverware, but we could finish 2nd in the league, which again would be an improvement on last years 4th,athenry were knocking on the door for a few years before they finally made the breakthrough so hopefulle we can follow suit.

If West lot the point and Crumlin gained 3 then Crumlin would have West on GD by 2/3 goals. The table on the site has'nt changed though, still shows West in 2nd?!

west finished 2nd for sure, anyway the game against crumlin finished a draw,so if crumlin won there appeal they would get 2 more points and west would lose one, which would still see them promoted.

Hibs Legend ;BUD IN ALL THE POSTS ABOUT PREM FOOTBALL IT GOES TO SHOW HOW BAD IT IS WHEN NOT ONE SAID THEY WATCHED A GOOD MATCH

If theirs one thing thet pisses me off about players worldwide, is when they hold up the imaginary card to get a player booked , when what should happen is they should be booked themselves.
The point im trying to make is lads coming on here calling for heads to roll in West , when that is a decision for the ref and disciplinary committee!!! So your right Hibs games must be f... all good if all they can write about is everything bar the actual game itself.............

As far as I can make out , if a team loses points after an appeal , the same points are not necessarily awarded to the club making the appeal . This was clear in the tables earlier in the season re the Mervue v Renmore game . Whether this was an error or not I can't be sure .

dont make me blush gooner, but the juvenile section is way more enjoyable to watch, look at the crowds ,parents supporters etc.also with not just the big 2 athenry u18,barna corofin u12.13.14.oranmore etc great spread of talent across the county.the way i see it [mostly] personally i attend a juv.match expecting effort, skill, excitement and ioopc commitment,go to most junior games and expect dirty tackles, scuffles, bitching, whinging to the refs, list is endless.pity the juv leagues esp,u11 and 12 not played in the summer and let junior players c how the game shud b played and how popular the juv leagues are.

completely agree cant understand why juvenile not played during summer in the evenings young lads would enjoy it more i suppose it may be due to clashing with gaa but that happens at start and end of season anyway
regarding duv 4 i imagine they might go back to 3 smaller sections played on home and away basis like it was year before

More likly to open up to 1 large division 1 round only , what ye have to remember is they do not care about div 4 , but the bit of money it generates is very welcome . Unless members of div 4 clubs ( not teams ) get on the committee no one gives a toss about lower leagues . The guys making the decisions are all from other clubs , so if your not in ...........

just witnessed an absolute cracking junior game yesterday evening in drom, where west beat salthill 4-2 having come from 2 down at half time, lovely day in drom, brilliant pitch and not a puff of wind for a change, some cracking football was played by both sides,it could of finished 5-5,it was end to end all game and not a bad tackle to be seen, may i just add that young gilmore for salthill was brilliant a crackin little player,a pleasure to watch but the best player on view was mats o malley,it was one of the best displays i ever seen from a junior soccer player,he was unplayable.

unless you count playing for 2nd place as something to play for,it was probably more important to west to finish 2nd as they haven't finished that high in 15 years, but u are probably right hibs, the game was so good cos everyone was relaxed, instead of the normal uptight!

Bad start i think hibs really cost them, they've only really improved since the signings of rabbitte, cobey and mike o malley before xmas, these 3 have made a huge difference to the team,i think the absence of miko and vinny o connor through injury for most of the season didn't help,1 win in the 1st 4 games, all games mats missed through injury,he really is the key player for west, the reason for no success over the last number of years i think was down to no interest, the club was just happy to survive instead of striving to compete which resulted in the club yo yo in and out of the premier for a no of years, the juvenile section is starting up again 2moro nite with 2 teams in the u-10,which is great to see, everyone in the club is now pulling in the one direction,4 adult teams and now 2 juvenile teams, when only 3 years ago before willie grant came in,west were struggling to field an A team,so progress although slow,is still progress.

BEST OF LUCK WITH THE JUVENILES WEST , YE ARE DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY STARTING AT THE BOTTOM AND WORKING THE HARD WAY UP . A FEW CLUBS HAVE TRIED THE SHORT CUT PUTTING TEAMS IN AT U 13 / 14 , PROVEN IT DOES NOT WORK , EG BOHS RECENTLY .A LOT OF PATIENCE REQUIRED -BUT THE HARD WORK WILL PAY OFF IN THE END !

they had 2 teams entered, they mixed up the teams instead of making 1 strong team,a couple of nice players on both teams, however they lost all 4 games,1-0,5-3,3-1 and 4-1,one of the coloured lads scored 4 goals crackin little player, they prob would of won all the games if they put the best 7 on 1 team but then the the other team would of been really hammered, which would not of been the right thing to do,as it's about enjoyment at this stage.
