Due to the inactivity of the Galway FA in relation to the organising of the second half of the league, we are having a meeting amongst the clubs on Mon evening in Menlo @ 8.30pm to discuss this matter further. Some positive action needs to be taken otherwise the league will be finished in two weeks!!!!! Most clubs have replied to say that they will be in attendence.

Hopefully ye will have an extra team next season with the addition of Tuam Celtic !!! Would add spice to what has become a problematic(GDL) and perhaps a little stale league , with same teams every year???

Why don't ye do the proper thing and form yer own league , separate to the Galway & District league ?? What is the reason behind ye joining it in the first place , when all it has been is grief to ye since ye joined up .
Come on have the guts to walk away and set up the Galway Ladies Football Association .
Or is there another reason ye are part and parcel of this auspicious organisation ?

If pics are in Tribune there will have been no hurling on any where on the planet the weekend before .Ye will have a better chance of getting published in a Roscommon or Mayo paper . Sure ye know what to do , have a gander at the paper in the shop - if the pics arnt in it dont buy it . They are thinking of renaming it the "Hogan stand Tribune " . They have an add now on Gbay fm (which I think they own ) saying " did ya get the Tribune " ...........saying it coveres all sport etc . Hey they should be done for false advertising ..... its a local paper but they do not cover local soccer .....so did I get the Tribune ? ......Not any more ...better coverage on this site Evil or Very Mad

Good point but in our initial meeting in March when all clubs met this was discussed, the possibility of forming our own league. however democracy ruled when the majority of clubs voted to give the GFA another chance!!!!. Hopefully next season a lesson will have been learnt (albeit expensive!) paying hard raised money to said organisation, who are systematically eroding the league to a shell of a competition, from 13 clubs to seven in alittle over two years!!!! It is time for the clubs to stand up and say that we want to develop our league and push it forward, it may take a couple of seasons but there is the drive and determination out there amongst people who care! New teams like TC are the way forward, Colga could be a possibility in a couple of years and older clubs like Bohs, Oughterard, Dunmore who play in roscommon league should be encouraged to re-enter the league as well. This forum is ideal to try and generate that drive and commitment now, otherwise another season under the auspices of GFA would result in ladies football being dead and buried with clubs looking to join other leagues!!!!!

Well put disgruntled , but as I thought money was behind it all along . I got the figures from our club secretary on money spent last season by the Galway & District league and it does not add up at all .Give out about the league here on a regular basis , but I have to say hold on a minute . We will say for argument sake there were 8 ladies teams in the leagues last season with say an average of 20 players per team making 160 players .
We will put it at (generously) €1,200 per team was taken in by the GDL from ladies leagues , making that a total €9,600 income from the Ladies football in Galway . Yet the expenditure last year excluding trophies , refs , coaching came to €49,000 + .Where did they extra €40,000 come from ?
I think a lot of lads clubs who are /were strugling to raise cash will be shocked when they see how much they are subsidising things .

I presume that a large part of this expenditure would be accounted for by the cost of sending a District League team to the Womens UEFA Cup in 2008.

Thats correct Ronan , take that amount and the amount of €46,000 that ended up , "by clerical error " in Galway Uniteds account that adds up to approx €80,000 funding of other entities by the Galway & District League last year alone . These amounts are whats known about !!
I am certain this money could be used in far better ways by the people that generated it ie the junior & juvenile players of Galway who pay registration fees !

If every league that consisted of 8 or more teams were to be funded to go off on a trip , it would be great fun !!!

Far be it for me to comment on the state of GFA's financial affairs here as I am not privvy to said information, but irrespective of the funding that was received by said team for there foray into Europe, surely that the GFA had some form of contingency plan in place for such an eventuality considering the amount of preparation, coaching from ex GU manager etc. This was not a team that was put together on a whim, but was entered specifically to achieve that exact outcome of representing Ireland in the UEFA Cup. I agree that other clubs should not have to subsidise that but the GFA should have been organising some form of fundraising etc, surely????
It is all well and good discussing the matter after the fact but my sole concern is the deterioration of ladies football and that is something that can be addreesed now and in the future.
I would prefer to leave the politicising to those better equipped to do so Laughing
