I asked a question here last season wether West were that good winning by record margin or was the standard of football in Galway especially Premier that poor ..............heres my answer now looking at results and posts , reports ect. Football in the Prem since the inception of Eircom League A and u20s is "piddle poor ". Last season and this season the football has dropped considerably and the gap between the divisions is very little .............In England you take the top four year in and year out , cream always rises to the top , but in the far lower regions of local football , they cant spell "consistant". Poor teams, restructure of league by FA , LACK OF INTEREST , i just dont know??????????????? _________________

buddy tis all in the name man , junior , take the gaa as a guideline we are familiar with . Ya have the likes of St Michaela and Salthill they are senior they put in a bit more effort and commitment than an intermediate team say the like of St James .Then ya have the juniors second teams really who dont make much in the way of sacrifice , they can be seen out the night before games and after games but have a pride in the parish - this level is the same as our premier without the pride in the parish - more a pride in the lads I socialise with or go on holidays with . Its probably the same as all junior leagues around the country bar one or two , but that is what it is .In terms of Senior comp it is miles behind . Just think , if this was a senior association , would the farce that happened about the agm have occured ? Were below senior level , and slightly above the likes of pub soccer !

Think your right buddy as a lot of good young players are not playing junior but are instead playing LOI A or under 20 for Salthill or Mervue as they are getting to play at a better standard against league of Ireland clubs (can't fault them) while our junior league is at a loss without these players. Although I think we still have a lot of good players in the league but spread across a lot of clubs with no one strong club this year as proved by results already this season. League is suffering from players opting to play LOI A and under 20 but what are the wise men in Terryland doing to counteract this to improve the standard in junior soccer in Galway....nothing just siting back waiting for our affiliation money! thats progress sure!!

Agree with the previous posts. With Gal Utd now basically part-time, Mervue in League of Ireland, Salthill in the A League, then you have the U-20 Gal Utd, Mervue and Salthill - all the good young players that would have previously played Junior soccer are now no longer playing it. Bad pitches, no linesmen, the standard has really gone down. Maybe a Connacht Senior league would improve things but at this rate Junior football is just a glorified pub league.

I cant believe it four to five posts all in agreement . Junior soccer has been left to rot by a stagnant committee for years nothing done to improve it or make it more competitive .They have just let it sprawl out in all directions like an out of control urban jungle . Then they get a few problems and no one knows what to do . Manage it properly is the answer . Set standards of entry . Re shape leagues . Put in criteria for entry . Higher divisions set aside for clubs with an established underage set up etc . One poster I think jockser says a Connacht senior league will improve junior soccer , how will it more junior players going to Senior !
