Judge , i take it you have a problem with there coaching staff playing for them.Gorman & Cleary manage there collingwood team ,for the last 3 years.Bad form when you see a clubs improving and you have a go at them .
Could you not say well done to Derek Rogers and Co for what they are doing.

College teams are made up of Students , Ex-Students , College Staff and there Coaching Staff . This is as per there Chairman .

From what I have heard they knew this was going to be questioned and have signed them up for some night courses!!!!!!!!!

All NUI are interested in is themselves and don't care for anyone else in the league, enough said with the number of league games played so far this season, never attending a league AGM etc.

They seem to have some major infulence in the Galway FA to grant them all this leeway. Galway soccer needs fair play and when NUI are involved there isn't, so either they come join the party on the same rules that everyone else plays to, or f**k off.

By the way hats off to Rodgers great start and get your facts right 'Fair' this is the first year Gorman has been involved.

Enough said Sleep Sleep Sleep

Well a little dickie bird from college told me the funding more than ever this year, is meant for students only ! Did a manager previously get in trouble for playing non students ?
Watch the next couple of days , I guarantee ya there will be changes .
Fair to tell you the truth , I cant stand the college set up as many have said on this site and you alone ( fair play to ya ,) defend the indefenseble .
Good work you state people are doing , come off it , you dont know what you are on about . First year set up a joke , go back a short while just before the current regime were in place .....how many years in a row were the Harding side in the final ? They even had a competitive competition between the local colleges underway at this stage of the season .
In good college tradition the Collingwood team came out of their top competitive team playing week in week out , how many of the current team are available for Colligwood ? Which at the end of the day is what college soccer is all about .

i dont understand all this stuff with the college . why do they have to be in college to play for them, its like saying you have to be from salthill to play for salthill and mervue to play for mervue etc etc so why does it matter that these players aren't in college .. i dont get it ast all

Because a lot of these students are away from home. They probably play for a club at home and want to keep fit during the week, it's not fair that these people who spend lots of money to travel to college and all that craic, don't get any leisure out of it. If I was playing in a football team here in Limerick and most of the team was made up of Caherdavin people and I was on the line...then I'd be pissed off about it and I'd be reading from the same page as judgeroybean.

No, I think you can play for a club and college. Last year when I filled out a form, they asked me what club I was playing for.

College is college. Why is it involved in the county district league? It should only be open to the students and to the college competitions.

you are wrong mary ! if you register to play for nuig in the galway dl then you can play for no other club. anyone that plays for any of the college teams pays reg fees like any other club so i dont see what the student levy has to do with anything either.
what you might be thinking of is that any student can compete in the intervarsities competitions even if they dont play club soccer for NUIG. i would say that the student levy funds these teams and not their club teams.
i have to be honest apart from the very late start this year ( or the very early start of the leagues what was the panic ?) i dont see the problem. i would much rather play an away game there with proper dressing rooms than some other places i have mentioned in a seperate post...

There is two sides to this coin here maybe it is good to have a better standard team in the league but then is fair I know in GAA they are hated through out the county by teams who have to play them but neutral spectators are happy to see a good quality side I think it is only people who have to play college that have a problem with it....league of Ireland clubs dont have a problem with UCD

Fair enough. I stood to be corrected!
You are right, student levy doesn't (or shouldn't) have anything to do with it. That's academia based. (and a rip-off, free education my arse! and I'm damned if I'm paying for a team I don't play with).

Is the Institute of Technology set up different to the University set up in regards to competitions. Eg, Fitzgibbon cup is a hurling comp between the IT's only isn't it?

College can play who they like, be they students or not, as they are registered as a junior soccer club like every other junior club in the GDL.

The problem most people have with them is the way they treat the league with their late starts and upsetting the fixtures for other clubs, playing games when they like and getting games changed to suit themselves (last weekend) and of course not bothering ever to turn up at an AGM to answer for this!!

I blame the Galway FA for allowing this to go on as all they are interested in is affiliation money and nothing else. No other District league would allow this crap to go on!

The simple fact of the matter is they can get players from whereever they want like any other team, but unlike any other teams they offer nothing to the G&DL.

As per my previous post the ex league of Ireland players they have signed this season apparently have been signed up for courses in order to avoid the wrath of the head of NUI.

I have harped on about them for the last number of months as have others and until motions are proposed and passed at the AGM next year unfortunately we can do nothing about these shower who want the best of both worlds. They use this league for other purposes and the long and the short of it, is they don't care for any other teams in the G&DL.

Motions were proposed previously at an AGM by OLBC that all teams commence at the same time each year. In fact OLBC were relgulated from the premier division partly down to the fact that NUI f**cked about with the league. NUI weren't even at the AGM to defend themselves despite been advised of the motion. the only person to defend them was John Cleary from the top table.

Says it all to me.

Wrong there del boy , they both compete in the CFAI leagues and cups , the Collingwood was traditionally an all universities comp but has opened up very slightly to a select few other third level colleges .

A lot of the posts above have half truths in them I am now probably going to add a few more . But I can give ye a few facts as they were 2/3 years ago when I played for college .
All the competitive clubs in college are funded by the college . The funding at the moment is part helped by a levy on all students entering the college . Go to the sports centre and ask to speak to any of the people in charge of sport employed by the college and they will tell you the rules . The colleges competitive teams are strictly for students . The ruling for these teams make up has nothing to do with Galway FA policies ( dont go looking for any , there are none ).
If you are not a student in the college you cannot play , end of story .
What did happen in the past , a club up there played a non student , and all their funding for the year was cut . This I would imagine is what will happen to the soccer club at the moment .
You can play for the college in Collingwood or intervarsities competition by being a student of that college but not necessarily playing with them in the local soccer league . But you cannot play for any other club if you are registered with NUIG in the Galwat District league . You cannot play for college in any competition if you are deemed pro or semi with an other team .
Looking at the sentinnel this morn , unless Cleary and Dundalk asst mgr Gorman are students , by college rules they should not have played . But they broke no rule of the galway fa . But can imagine this causing a pile of crap for themselves if Horse finds out .

Who gives a damn who plays , not the GFA............COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO a certain team rang 2 people in FA saying that they only had 9 players for w/e game , because of swine flu ( not the admin by the way he was not reachable) .
The answer which defies belief , given to them by both people on separate phone calls was .......rope in a few unregistered players to make up the numbers .Now in fairness to the club they laughed at this suggestion but were then told well play unregistered players and get forms in Monday morning and it would be sorted ???? Fair play to the club they refused but did field in a game that turned into a farce for other reasons , story for another day perhaps ...... Now i ask ya , how or who put these people in positions ......yourselves !!!!!!!!! No No

not true Borat staff, faculty members etc can play and as far as i know the college also allows players a years grace whereby they can play on for one season after they finish up in college!
